Each year hundreds of school children visit the maple sugar bush at McLean's to take in the sights, sounds and smells of 'Sugaring Off'

When: Maple season is our busiest time for tours. Each year the timing is a little different, depending on the weather. Generally the season falls in the time between mid march and mid April. In this period we hope to get 12 to 13 days of good sap run. We give tours throughout this time. If the sap doesn't flow while you are here we adjust the tour to give you a worthwhile experience.

Tours take place in the morning and afternoon. Times can be arranged to suit your schedule.

 

Where: McLean's sugar Bush is located 1km east of Peterborough county road 23 (hwy 507) at the junction of the Curve Lake Road, 4 minutes south of Buckhorn Ontario or 20 to 25 minutes north of Peterborough.

 

When you arrive: We meet you in the parking area at the farm market and give you a short history of our farm and directions for the tour. Next there is a hay ride to the sugar bush, a guided walking tour through the bush and a tour of our sugar making facilities.The tour continues back to the market and kitchen where you are treated to 'Toffee on snow' (weather permitting ) or some other treat.

You are then free to romp in the straw, enjoy a snack or your lunch at the picnic area (sheltered area available in poor weather), or purchase something from our market.

 

Time: It takes about an hour and one half to two hours to complete the tour. Again, we can adjust to suit your time schedule.

 

Special services: Although we are not totally handicap accessible we do offer special tours for those with disabilities.

 

Cost: The charge is $4.00/person. For groups over 20 children there is no charge for support staff at a ratio of 1-5 or 1-6.

 

Other services: Tours can also include a snack or lunch. Tours are also available at other times of year, such as strawberry season or in the fall. Please Inquire.
